Peace Education Program Designated as Essential Service to Help Homeless

Johannesburg has set up shelters to protect the homeless from COVID-19 and to provide essential services. The Prem Rawat Foundation’s (TPRF) Peace Education Program has been designated as an essential service because of the inner strength and personal peace it brings to participants in this difficult time.

The Peace Education Program is being held in six shelters with more than 200 people participating. One of the participants said, “I thought I was homeless, but now I know that I have a home inside me. Please continue with the program because we need it.” 

To avoid putting themselves and others at risk of getting sick, the Peace Education facilitators wear masks, sanitize all materials, and take all other reasonable precautions. The wonderful feedback from the participants makes the efforts all worthwhile. 

“When the Peace Education Program asked for volunteers to facilitate in shelters, I was excited and nervous at the same time. Excited because I was going to be able to go out for a moment during the lockdown; nervous because I didn’t know what to expect,” says Noma, one of the volunteer facilitators. “When we started, I couldn’t believe it—the gratitude for the message, the understanding—it is really humbling me. Every session is an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. I’m grateful for being part of the program.”

The Peace Education Program has 10 themes including Dignity and Hope, each pointing the focus to another area of self-awareness. Each workshop features videos  of Prem Rawat exploring the themes, and the participants  reflect on what they hear, learning from each other and building a deep connection with the materials.

TPRF provides the materials for the Peace Education Program free of charge and the course has been taught in more than 70 countries. Anyone can apply for a license to offer the course to interested groups.
