Earlier this year a devastating earthquake struck Indonesia, causing a vicious tsunami to sweep into the island of Sulawesi which has since claimed over 2,100 lives. The earthquake toppled buildings while a towering 20-foot wave washed over coastal communities affecting more than 1.6 million people.
Due to the huge number of those impacted by the earthquake and tsunami and the limited resources of cities such as Palu, prominent officials in the area have been calling for foreign aid and relief since the event took place on 28th September.
The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) – which is involved with a wide variety of charitable initiatives that help people live with dignity, peace and prosperity – responded immediately with $15,000 in aid. Thanks to the generosity of TPRF supporters, the Foundation has since contributed a further $25,000 for critical medicines and medical supplies to expedite the recovery process.
The funds were granted to Americares, a charity that is working effectively on the ground in partnership with local government officials and healthcare providers.
TPRF Board Chair Linda Pascotto has a message of thanks for supporters: “Our hearts go out to the people who have been traumatized by these tragedies. Thank you to all of the donors who put TPRF in a stronger position to help people during their darkest hours”.
Since its inception in 2001, TPRF has made more than 160 humanitarian grants to improve lives in 40 countries. TPRF has also developed the Food for People program, which provides hundreds of thousands of nutritious meals to malnourished children and elderly adults in Ghana, Nepal and India.
