Humanitarian Aid for Hurricane Helene Victims

Prem Rawat trabaja con su fundación para brindar ayuda humanitaria a las víctimas del huracán Helene, uno de los huracanes más devastadores en la historia de Estados Unidos.

La Fundación Prem Rawat (TPRF) ha otorgado una subvención inicial de $25.000 a World Central Kitchen para ayudar a alimentar a personas de la ciudad de Asheville, duramente afectada, y de toda la región occidental de Carolina del Norte. Desde su creación en 2001, TPRF ha otorgado 180 subvenciones a organizaciones asociadas en 47 países, proporcionando 6,3 millones de dólares para diversas iniciativas humanitarias.

El huracán Helene devastó Asheville y las comunidades montañosas circundantes con las peores inundaciones registradas en su historia, dejando a miles de personas sin necesidades básicas cubiertas.

En muchos lugares las precipitaciones durante la tormenta superaron los 60 centímetros. El sistema de agua de la ciudad ha sufrido graves daños. Varias carreteras principales fueron arrasadas o bloqueadas por aludes de lodo, dificultando la distribución de suministros. En muchos lugares aún no hay electricidad, servicio de telefonía móvil ni agua potable. Se calcula que el número de muertos es de 227 y sigue aumentando.

A medida que las aguas retroceden, no disminuye la necesidad de asistencia masiva. La reconstrucción de la región, incluida Asheville, será un proceso largo y difícil que probablemente lleve años.
